Enforcement questions include: • Deputies taking an "educate and warn first" approach when encountering violations of the order. • Deputies will not ask for proof that you are an essential employee. • Additional information regarding the order can be found at the Salt Lake County Health Department's web-site at www.slco.org/health • The full text of the Public Health Order can be read by clicking here. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office April 06, 2020 Today a thank you gift from a citizen was dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office. These beautiful signs were placed at each entrance of Metro and Oxbow Jails from our community. Thank you for the donation and the reminder we are all heroes who work here keeping the incarcerated and the community safe. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 30, 2020 We wanted to share with you Sheriff Rivera’s position with regards to the enforcement of Mayor Wilson’s recently issued Public Health Order (PHO), which took effect this morning at 12:01 AM. As we continue to perform our day to day duties, Sheriff’s Office will proactively address violations of the Public Health Order. Deputies will assess each situation individually and respond appropriately. The initial response will focus on communication and education with the goal of gaining voluntary compliance. Our hope is to accomplish this without additional enforcement being taken. We thank you for your cooperation and compliance! Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 29, 2020 Salt Lake County has issued a public health order in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed. We hope Salt Lake County residents understand and voluntarily comply to protect the health of our citizens within the County and throughout the State. We will work with our communities and continue to help educate citizens about the importance of this public health order. Please remember to practice social distancing and limit groups to 10 or less. Our community is strong and resilient. Stay calm, stay safe, and stay home. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 27, 2020 Earlier today Governor Herbert and Salt Lake County Mayor Wilson encouraged our community to Stay Safe, Stay Home. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 19, 2020 This morning the Sheriff’s Office reevaluated our jail operations and has made the decision to take both the Metro and Oxbow Jails off lockdown. Due to preventative actions we have initiated to minimize the spread of COVID-19, our visiting remains closed to the public. Our visiting lobby will remain available to non-contact attorney visits, law enforcement duties, and payment of cash bail. Prisoners will have the opportunity to reach out to family and friends through phone calls, emails, and letters. As of March 16, 2020, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office has provided our prisoners three (3) free fifteen (15) minute phone calls a week while we have suspended visitation. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 18, 2020 Here is a brief update for family and friends who have loved ones currently incarcerated at the Metro and Oxbow Jails. We are pleased to report there were no injuries as a result of the earthquake or aftershocks that have occurred throughout the day. Our jail support system, which includes water (hot and cold), HVAC, and electricity as well as emergency support systems, are fully operational and have been maintained throughout the day. Please know prisoners and staff are safe and there has been no risk to anyone during this incident. To continue our pursuit in keeping everyone safe, we will continue to remain on lockdown and reassess our lockdown status in the morning. Message from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office March 18, 2020 The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind our community members to stay calm and stay at home today as community leaders work through helping others effected by the earthquake. Establish an emergency priority list for personal items, gather vital documents, and write down important information you may need. For more detailed information please check out the cdc.gov or Utah.gov website on earthquake preparedness. Most importantly, please continue to remain calm, take care of your families and one another. Our community will be stronger together.
